The Solemn Morning
The Solemn Morning

This composition caught my eye as I was packing up to leave where I had been shooting on this chilly morning on the coast.  It was just about 15 degrees from where I had set up.  My first thought was that the formation resembled ruins. As if this was the site of some ancient building.  With that thought, I decided this image would serve best in black and white and exposed for quite a while to emphasize the shape and detail.

Dawn Breaks
Dawn Breaks

The dawn was bursting with gold and orange.  Once I arrived at this location I had to set up and compose very quickly.  The light went from being barely visible to uninteresting in a matter of moments with only a small window if perfect gold dawn light in between.  They say photography is a lot about luck and this image reflects that.

Faerie Pools
Faerie Pools

This was my first and, incidentally, favorite attempt at painting a long exposure subject with the light of a flashlight. The stillness of the foreground tide pools which reflect the darkening sky made this is shoot to remember.
